Equipment

Every baby is going to need things like cots, cribs, moses baskets, sheets, blankets, towels, high chairs, prams, strollers, and much more besides. They are more the more expensive items, so if buying for a friend’s baby they might fall outside of your budget, but for parents, these represent must-have items.

Toys

Whether they stimulate or offer comfort, toys are the perfect way to welcome a new baby to the world. And as they get older, they’re going to need – and eventually want – more and more! From bath time toys and cuddly characters to mobiles and Loopy Links, there are many toys that will bring the baby enjoyment and help develop their creativity.

There are some common baby skin problems like baby gerbils, baby acne, cradle caps and heat rash with sunburn common with newborns of any country.

Baby skin care: Skin care is the foremost factor in spite of its adaptability to the new environment. Skin is so red that it offers irritation and infection to every touch. Organic Baby Moses Basket

Organic Baby Moses Basket
Has anyone used a moses basket bassinet for their baby?in particular the seed organic one?

I am looking at bassinets to buy for my baby as i want to use a bassinet for the first few weeks at least to have them in the room with me, before putting them in the cot all night. I really liked the look of this one, but i don’t know anyone who has used it before? link:

http://www.babiesgalore.com.au/bedtime/bassinets/babybaby_seed_organic_pod

The things that i like about it are that i can take the moses basket to friends places for baby to sleep in as a portable cot, and it is a nice small size to go next to my bed, and i really like the modern look of it and the breathable materials used.
The things i don’t like about it are that the handles stick into the cot (i might be able to tie them down out of the way) and i’m unsure how safe it is for baby as it is just a woven basket. If anyone has used one or knows about this product please let me know your experience/thoughts about this.

Thank you : )

That’s the exact bassinet I was going to buy for my little one but my Bubs came a few weeks early & they didn’t have them in stock at the time :(

However, I’m glad I didn’t buy it now that my Bubs is 7weeks old I would have only used it for a couple of weeks as I had him out of my room by then (he makes alot of noise in his sleep!). We ended up hiring the bassinets they use in the hospital which was great as our Bubs got used to it over our 5 day stay & settled right in when we got home, it was much more convenient as it doubled as a baby bath & could just be wheeled into the bathroom etc.

All in all we only used a bassinet for a few weeks & if I had to do it all over again I’d still just hire the one from the hospital even though the seed organic one is better looking!

Hope this helps x

Naturepedic Organic Baby Crib Mattresses
Is an organic crib mattress worth the cost?

We’re looking at the naturepedic 252 coil organic crib mattress. It’s $400 ($320 if I can use the 20% coupon at buybuybaby).
I want to get the best for my baby– wondering if this mattress is worth it, or if anyone knows of another organic crib mattress out there that is a little more reasonably priced?
They do offer a lower grade one (150 coils) for $259 (which would be about $200 with the 20% discount). Good point about the foam vs. coil mattresses. I did not think of it that way.
Lauren- it’s the type of plastic that worries me. This mattress is covered with food grade polyethylene– but perhaps there is a lower cost alternative out there that offers the same thing?
Doug- that is a very good point. Thank you!
I haven’t really been able to find one online for under $500 though.
If all else fails, I may just get the less expensive naturepedic one for $260.

If you can afford it, go for it. Naturepedic mattresses are made in the USA, too! We could not afford it, so we bought a nice tempur-pedic mattress from Babies ‘R’ Us and bought an organic cotton/modal mattress pad and crib sheets. I agree, that you shouldn’t get the foam mattresses, due to the fumes and gasses they emit. Best of luck to you!
