Designer Baby Clothes

By Catherine Olivia

Everything for today’s infant who goes places.

Every year the top designers unveil their latest fashion creations for the little people of the world. This doesn’t mean fashion designs for the Warwick Davises and Billy Bartys of the world, nor those who don’t make in a year what Paris Hilton leaves for a tip after lunch at Sardi’s. The little ones that the fashion gurus design for are infants and designer baby clothes, as bizarre as the concept seems, grow more popular each year. Despite the fact that the child will outgrow the garments in very little time, well to do parents love to ooh and aah over fashionable items designed by the likes of Christian Dior, Kimora Lee, and others. The top fashion houses produce body suits, bibs, booties, and bonnets that are soft to the touch, beautiful to behold, cost many times more than the typical Kmart baby outfit and are just waiting to be urpped on by a baby suffering from colic.

Baby Dior

Perhaps the best known line of designer wear for infants comes from Christian Dior. Dubbed Baby Dior, the line includes items like the sweet 100% cotton Dior baby body suit with pink or blue snaps, the Dior teddy bear logo on the chest, and a price tag of $55.00 from E Luxury dot com. The site is nice enough to point out that parents who find this item attractive may also like the $115.00 Baby Dior hooded towel.

Baby Phat

Leave it to Rap pioneer and Def Jam records founder Russell Simmons to innovate a way to bring a bit of bling into the nursery. To promote his Phat Farm line of men’s hip-hop styles, Simmons had a number of small tee shirts designed with the legend “Baby Phat” printed on them. The shirts were donned by female celebrities and models and garnered quite a bit of attention. The Baby Phat line was born and Simmons made his wife Kimora Lee the line’s creative director. Baby Phat produces clothes for young girls (sorry, make that “girlz”) from their teens all the way down to infancy. Baby Phat baby wear includes tees priced from $11.00 to $18.00 and matching outfits ranging in price from $34.00 to $42.00.

Anne Geddes

One of the latest names in baby clothes is that of famed photographer Anne Geddes. Apparently inspired by the popularity of her famous photos of babies dressed up as bumble bees, ladybugs, sunflowers, and rosebuds, Geddes has launched “annegeddesbaby,” a line of clothing for infants that will allow parents to dress their newborns as, well, bumble bees, ladybugs, sunflowers, and rosebuds. Included are pieces like the Ladybug Jacket ($39.50), the Bunny Suit, Hat and Booties Set ($69.50), and the Rosebud Quilt ($29.50).

Designer baby clothes may not be the easiest thing for the more frugal parent out there to comprehend, but they’re for real and they’re being purchased in droves. The one nice thing about the phenomena for all of the parents who can’t afford such infantile extravagancies (or who just won’t pay those kinds of prices) is that the babies wearing these labels today will outgrow them tomorrow and a lot of the items will grace the shelves of your local Salvation Army or Goodwill store sometime after that, bearing a pinned on price tag that reads $1.50.

Six Guidelines To Toyshop For Your Baby

By Michelle Andrews

When you are ready for toyshop for your baby, you probably confuse what should you buy. You want to buy your baby educational toys, but does not know whether your baby will understand. You may find that your baby can do so little, so by giving him any kind of toys will not harm them. Is that true?

That’s not true. You have to understand the fact is that your baby is learning at a great speed, taking in everything that is around, and picking up habits, information and words. Research shows that many disabilities and learning disorders in young children can be avoided by providing them with appropriate cognitive stimulation as early as possible. By giving your baby the right stimulation, you can ward off such problems and groom your baby for pre-school and the challenges that follow.

Every parent wants the best of everything for their child, but sometimes it is hard to know what is best when there are so many choices and opinions. Choosing toys for your child can be stressful because of the sheer number of factors you have to consider before making a buy, and the staggering variety of options you have. However, selecting good educational toys plays a very significant role in your child’s development, and as such cannot be disregarded or treated casually.

Guideline for Your Toyshop

Remember these guidelines as you toyshop for your baby:

1. The visual perception of infants is limited, so make sure to buy toys in bright, contrasting colors.

2. Activity centers and crib mobiles fascinate newborns. Some mobiles come with an adjustable height option so that you can make sure the mobile is in your baby’s visual range.

3. Babies up to six months old have very limited motor skills and love high-pitched sounds. Chimes, rattles, teething rings, colorful pictures and soft blocks will stimulate your baby at this age.

4. For babies between six to nine months old, you can buy building blocks, activity boxes and cubes, stacking ring cones, and bath toys. Try to vary the textures of the toys.

5. Between the age of nine months and a year, babies are old enough to enjoy and learn from toys such as nesting cups, push and pull toys, large crayons, spades, and stacking blocks.

6. It always helps to keep in mind that you do not need fancy and expensive toys to stimulate your infant. You might bring home a very trendy toy for your baby only to find that baby finds the packaging far more interesting. Your young child just needs stimulation and a way to express their creativity, and this can be done with homemade toys as well.

Tips And Hints For Baby Shower Gifts Every New Mother Needs Part 1

By Theresa Moore

As the hostess of a baby shower, you are sure to get more than a few calls from friends and other family members about what to get the expectant parents for their new baby. There are literally hundreds of baby gifts that range from absolute necessities to just plain adorable and irresistible. There are also items in each category that fit any budget. For example, new parents will find they cannot live without that $2.49 formula dispenser as much as the $79 baby electric swing.

Gift Registries

Taking the guess work out of what color, brand or style of baby product the parent’s want most is the gift registry. Many people are familiar with the fact that soon to be married couples will pick out china and silver patterns at the department store for guests to go in and purchase a place setting as a wedding gift. These same types of registries are available for expectant parents at national chain stores like Babies “R” Us and Target, as well as many localized specialty baby stores.

At Babies R Us you can register online, thanks to the teaming up of this baby superstore with Amazon.com. Expectant parents also can register at the store and have it available for guests to view online.

Your gift registry can be updated online through Babiesrus.com, linking it to Toys “R” Us and the Geoffrey store. The “help” file at the top of the page can take you directly to the Baby Registry under Gifts and Gift Certificates.

A gift registry starts with the parents walking through the store with a large checklist provided by the store and selecting exactly the items they want as well as the quantity. A gift registry is categorized by furniture, bath items, toys, bedding, strollers, clothing, etc. That makes it easier for new parents to figure out what items they might like and for friends and family to find the type of item they want to give.

After the parents have selected each item they would like for the baby, the information is entered into the store’s computer. When someone wants to purchase something from the registry, they simply go to a kiosk or customer service desk, type in the name of the parents, and a complete list is printed out for them to carry around the store. This list can even be accessed online if the store has a website, so you can order from your computer and have it shipped. So even if you live far away you can use the gift registry service. It also makes local shopping convenient because you can select your gift from home then just pick it up and be on your way.

The gift registry also shows when an item has been purchased. This is great for avoiding duplicate gifts and ensuring the parents really will love the style you’ve purchased.

If there are some very expensive items on the gift registry these may be given by close family members such as grandparents. However, a group from the office can organize and pool their contributions to the gift giving and purchase larger ticket items such as a complete baby travel system that includes the car seat that attaches to the stroller that coverts to lying down and sitting up positions for different aged babies. These can cost around $250, but are a wonderful gift that includes not only the mandatory car seat, but a stroller that grows with the baby.

If you are one that likes to give surprise gifts, you may try selecting something from the list, a diaper bag for example, and then adding to it. The diaper bag can be filled with little toys, bath products, feeding supplies or a couple of cute outfits. That way they are getting the exact diaper bag they wanted, but a few unexpected items as well.

Unexpected Gifts for Dad

It is always a thoughtful and much appreciated gesture when friends and family remember the father to be has a big part in this joyous event. Most attention seems to be placed on the expectant mother and baby, but the new father will appreciate gifts such as a bachelor survival kit to help him out during long waiting periods at the hospital and a couple of nights alone at home.

Dad’s survival kit for the hospital might include:

1. Sports magazines

2. Soda, bottled water and snacks (hospital vending machines can be expensive)

3. A pillow

4. A change of clothes or at least a shirt (Have one 5. printed up that says, “Proud Dad”)

6. CD player with headphones and some relaxing music to listen to while Mom (and then baby) get some rest

Extra film for his camera (or batteries for the digital camera)

Items for the At-Home survival kit can include a basket filled with:

1. Homemade casserole to refrigerate then heat up and eat anytime

2. Easy to grab snack foods such as cut up fruit, cookies, veggies and dip

3. A list of family and friends’ email addresses so he can send out the word about the baby along with a digital picture

Hospital Survival Kit for Mom

A hospital survival kit can be for both the expectant mother and father. To include items Mom might need in addition to the suitcase she has packed you can add her favorite magazines, a book, or CD player with her taste in music. There may be waiting periods during earlier labor where she can rest, but most likely the kit will be used during the 2 or so days after the baby is born. In this case, giving her a list of phone numbers of family and friends lets her make some calls from the hospital.

Using Music To Calm Your Baby

By JT

Music is a wonderful way for you to calm and soothe your baby, especially during the first year. How many times have your heard parents say that there was nothing that they could do with their crying, fussing baby until they tried music. This is because music does indeed soothe the savage beast, or in this case, the baby.

There are certain distinct sounds that have been proven to calm even fussy babies: the sounds of nature, white noise, and music. Even if your baby isn’t fussing or crying you may want to use music as often as you can to encourage that feeling of calm and peacefulness. All it takes is a few minutes every day and before you know it your baby will be looking forward to hearing that certain song emanating from the CD player.

There is nothing complicated or mysterious about introducing your baby to music from day one. You don’t need to search for the perfect song or a certain type of music. All you have to do is start by having your baby listen to your favorite songs and music. If jazz is on the top of your list, let your baby listen to the sounds of John Coltrane as he sits in his baby seat watching you in the kitchen. It doesn’t matter if you play the schmaltzy songs of the eighties or some wicked African beat, your baby is going to listen and his mood is going to be altered by any musical sound that he hears.

Besides the music that you yourself can introduce your baby to, there are hundreds of CDs on the market today that are filled with baby songs and lullabies. At the end of the day you may want to play a CD of quiet baby songs that have a slower beat. There are so many CDs for you to choose from that you will have a hard time making up your mind. Choose something that interests you. Many baby CDs will have lullabies and faster beat songs on the same CD.

Playing music has other benefits besides soothing your fussy, crying baby. These benefits include:

- Babies are introduced to musical sounds.

- Music enhances your baby’s behavior and cognitive skills.

- Relieves stress for the entire family.

- Will stimulate curiosity and an interest in music.

Take time to find a variety of music CDs for your baby to listen to. You’ll soon notice which music your baby is most drawn to and can use that music when he is particularly fussy or is crying.
